" We live in an age when people often pray small prayers and have limited expectations of God. Perhaps they believe He does not really care about the world's suffering? perhaps they doubt His willingness to interfere in our temporal injustices? Maybe some people even believe Him impotent? But I believe history belongs to the intercessors, those willing to believe that God is bigger than our suffering, those willing to believe that His power is more than able to answer to the world's needs, those willing to confront Him with their God-given vision of a society full of justice, health and love. " Powerful and striking words from John Robb writing for World Vision. Prayer and intercession - something we all do in all manner of different ways. For many years I believed that intercession was a particular calling that only a few would get and occasionally they'd update me on what they found out! Where on earth do we get such ideas?! Through prayer we participate with God to demolish strongholds, establish His Kingdom and change the world! It is indeed an honour and a privilege to present our prayers on behalf of others before the Maker of the universe.

Rooted in all we do, facilitate and encourage through Celebrate is the desire to see the population of Medway come to a living faith on Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. Prayer evangelism through the prayer lighthouses for your neighbours and family, work and school collegues is an expression of prayer to a God of temporal justice and eternal salvation. We know that apart froma change in people's hearts any outward change will have limited impact and it is this change we seek God for. There are countless books that tell us how to pray, when Jeus taught His disciples to pray " He did not critise all public prayers, but He condemned those that attracted attention. He also discouraged vain, meaningless, repetitive prayers that were full of religious piety. By contrast Jesus focused on intimacy with god, thus establishing prayer as a form of worship and communion, and He said to petition God for the establishment of His Kingdom on earth in our family prayer. " John Paul Jackson.

Victor Lorenzo from Buenos Aries, Argentina shared with us recently in Medway on intercession being part of your identity, and we would encourage you afresh in this new year and millennium to continue praying for your neighbours, perhaps even joining together with other believers adjacent to you who share the same vision for the streets and schools around your home. It is an ongoing process but Scripture assures us that " The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. &qout 2 Peter C3 v9 NIV

To conclude I quote from John Paul Jackson's excellent book 'Needless Casualties of War', " Our greatest passion and priority should be intercession - the longing of our spirits for God. When prayer is the supreme focus of our hearts, we discover hidden treasures of intimacy with God. Our inner spirits are transformed. And greater revival power is released through us that can potentially sweep millions into the Kingdom of God. Therefore keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking. Matthew C7 v7. God is waiting to hear the prayers of the saints and to unleash the excellent power of His wonderful name on earth as it is in heaven. " Amen - let His Kingdom come, His will be done.
